Top Surf Breaks in Central Park
Matakana Island – Puni’s Farm
Stunning part of Central Parks coast with a superb beach break made naturally by a delta sand bar system created at the entrance of the Tauranga Harbor. The Island is accessible by boat. Perfect A-frame super hollow barrels. Likes any swell North through East with a 20kt offshore.
Main Beach – Blowhole
The Blowhole is a sheltered break offering great all year around Surf but particularly during the winter waves with onshore Easterly and Southeast. The Main is one of the few places surfable during big swells and onshore conditions. A right point-break called the Blowhole produces long right-handers with multiple sections particularly suiting long boarders.
Mt Maunganui Artificial Reef
The man-made addition to the Mount Coast. A massive triangular sand bag setup with an appetite for North angle swells. The reef is capable of producing very heavy pits both left and right when the swell angle is right. To date an inconsistent but exciting break.
Tay Street, Clyde Street, Omanu, Arataki
A beautiful stretch of coastline featuring quality beach breaks. When there’s swell expect mellow peaky beach break conditions perfectly suited for schredding and long-boarding.
Maketu and Newdicks
Again a beautiful stretch of coastline a short 1/2 hour drive down the coast from Mount Maunganui featuring quality beach breaks. When there’s swell expect mellow peaky beach break conditions perfectly suited for schredding and long-boarding, you’ll have these breaks to yourself most times.
